The question “What are we made of?” has puzzled humanity for centuries, and the answer to this question has changed considerably through history. From the Aristotelian “earth, water, air and fire” to the current Standard Model of Particle Physics, physicists have developed tools and methodologies to answer this and many other questions regarding the basic composition of matter.
During this two days masterclass you will learn how cutting edge particle physics is done: from the underlying principles of physics as a science to the handling of data and its interpretation.
We will work with real data collected by different projects from research institutions that measure cosmic radiation with extremely high energy levels. You will analyze these cosmic rays and look into phenomena so energetic that current colliders cannot produce them.
